Engineers are responsible for addressing some of the biggest challenges facing the world, both now and in the future. But this can only happen if the world's engineers can keep up with, create and implement the latest developments in technology and ideas. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a fundamental part of any career in engineering – ensuring 'professionally registered and active' engineers keep up to date by constantly learning and improving, to develop skills and stay at the cutting edge. Not only will this aid your contribution to engineering, but it’ll help you get the most out of your career.
CPD is personal and unique to your development. Our approach to CPD is about learning outcomes achieved rather than time spent on activities. We call this reflective practice.
So much of what engineers do every day counts towards their professional development, both at work and through extracurricular courses and interests. Often using UK-SPEC as a reference can help you.
Are you working, on a career break, retired, semi-retired or just volunteering? Find out if you’re a professionally active engineer to determine your professional development needs.
From 2019 recording of CPD will become mandatory. The Institution now carries out an annual CPD audit on a sample representation of its EngTech, IEng and CEng Members and Fellows. We also provide feedback.
