The CPD Assessment Committee

The role of the CPD Assessment Committee (CPDAC) is to maintain and implement processes for assessing the continuing professional development of members who are registered with the Engineering Council (EngC), and to provide valuable feedback to those required to provide their CPD logs for audit purposes.

The Committee is responsible for monitoring and implementing IMechE policies and procedures for ensuring that the IMechE complies with Engineering Council (EngC) regulations regarding mandatory CPD reporting and audit. To establish and maintain standards, systems, and records in support of assessors and applicants, to ensure a consistent standard of assessment and feedback on CPD returns.

Responsibilities

  • To review submission received from members within the annual audit cycle who have requested personal feedback
  • Provide constructive and respectful feedback to the member, solely designed to help them in continuous improvement of their scheme
  • Raise awareness of the importance and value of CPD to the wider engineering community
  • Share best practice

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Benefits

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a fundamental part of any career in engineering, ensuring 'professionally registered and active' engineers keep up to date by constantly learning and improving, developing skills and staying abreast of innovation. This will enhance your contribution to engineering and help you get the most out of your career. All volunteering roles offered by the Institution provide support for your CPD.

Role Requirements

  • A professionally registered member of the Institution
  • Familiar with the principles of CPD and reflective learning, able to provide constructive feedback to other members
  • Familiar with HR and L&D principles, staff coaching and progression, mentoring and coaching principles. Diversity and ethical issues
  • Ideally in an engineering management role

Commitment

IMechE undertake to annually random sample some 2.5k registered members, with individual feedback being provided to ca. 1k. Evaluations are undertaken virtually.

  • Committee members are expected to receive and review a minimum of one batch of ten a month. There is a two-week turnaround time for each batch
  • Committee meetings are held 3 times per year, with 2 conducted virtually and 1 face-to-face meeting pa at the Institution’s HQ
  • Attend a minimum of two committee meetings visits per year, to remain current with the assessment tasks of the committee
  • Volunteers should expect to receive at minimum 4 cases per year to review, with a two-week turnaround time for each review
  • An expected term of 5 years’ service
  • Complete training as deemed necessary
  • Committee members are required to sign a Data Protection Agreement

Initial Training

  • Attend a formal training session conducted either virtually or at IMechE HQ.
  • Observe a committee meeting with case discussion
  • Awareness of the relevant Engineering Council policy, procedures and guidance documents, namely UK-SPEC, and Registration Code of Practice (RCoP)

The IMechE will cover all reasonable expenses incurred to attend a committee meeting in person.
