Institution News Team
The Institution of Mechanical Engineers has signed the Armed Forces Covenant, the next step in our work supporting Armed Force engineers and technicians, veterans, and reservists.
The Institution has a long history of working closely with all three branches of the Armed Forces, going back to the creation of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in 1942.
Today, our partnership remains strong, and we welcome engineers and technicians from the Armed Forces worldwide. We provide dedicated routes to professional registration recognising specific training pathways and career points.
Signing the Armed Forces Covenant demonstrates our intention to support the Armed Forces community. We recognise the value serving personnel, both regular and reservists, veterans and military families contribute, and this commitment continues our efforts to embody our values and helps us to deliver our mission of improving the world through engineering.
Dr Alice Bunn OBE, IMechE Chief Executive, said:
“We recognise the value that serving personnel, both regular and reservists, veterans and military families contribute to our organisation and our country. We will continue to offer dedicated support, but also look to enhance the way we create opportunities and value for our armed forces members and their wider network. Signing the Armed Forces Covenant takes our work with Armed Forces personnel and veterans one step further and formally puts IMechE alongside other organisations which recognise the same commitment.”
IMechE is the first Professional Engineering Institution to sign the Covenant.
