FH Aachen & Reuschling have won this year’s Railway Challenge, beating six other teams in the competition which took place on 23-26 June 2022 at Stapleford Miniature Railway, Leicestershire.
The runner-up was the team from Transport for London while Alstom & University of Derby took third spot.
Railway Challenge tasks teams of students, apprentices, and young professionals to follow a system engineering process to develop, build and test a railway locomotive that meets specific competition objectives.
On this year’s event, Organising Committee Chair Prof. Simon Iwnicki notes that: "As we hopefully leave the disruption of the pandemic behind us, we were again able to run all the main challenges. This means that the teams who participated got the full experience of managing the design and operation of a locomotive as well as dealing with all the competing demands of a real-world problem. The Railway Challenge provides a fantastic learning experience and many of the participants take these lessons with them as they progress in their careers."
Well done to all of the teams who took part in the 2022 Railway Challenge and thank you to our sponsors RSSB, Angel Trains, Beacon Rail Leasing, Network Rail, Young Rail Professionals and the Pamela and David Rollin Foundation.
