Counselling services

We know it’s not always easy to ask for help, especially when it comes to your mental well-being. So we’re making it easier to find that help with a range of potential services covering:

• Finding a counsellor near you
• Face-to-face counselling grant
• Online counselling
• Specialist support
• Social visits

Many people would prefer to speak to somebody face-to-face, but don’t know how to find that somebody. Use the Counselling Directory website to see who is available in your postcode area, and what their expertise is.

Many people find the cost of using a counsellor a barrier to obtaining help, especially if NHS provision is unsuitable. If you need help with meeting the costs of counselling, we may be able to help. You can email us at supportnetwork@imeche.org or call us on Tel +44 (0)20 7304 6816.

If you would prefer not to talk to someone directly, online counselling may be more appropriate for your needs. You can access this through the Association of Counselling and Therapy Online.

Sometimes you and/or a member of your family need specialist and/or condition-specific support. We have access to a range of specialist agencies including autism, dyslexia, and post-natal depression. Please contact the Support Network office for more information about using these, or any other specialist services which you feel that you or a family member might need, but do not currently have access to.

We have a home visiting service which largely matches ‘engineers to engineers’ for the purposes of providing social contact between members who may have limited opportunities to meet other engineers, and/or who might be socially isolated. Please contact us if you are interested in participating in this service either as a recipient or as a volunteer.
