Awarded for the best paper on a power industries mechanical engineering subject published by the Institution in the previous year or for a contribution or for achievement in that field.
The Power Industries Division awarded Chana Saias the 2021 Arthur Charles Award. Chana Saias is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Propulsion and Thermal Power Engineering at Cranfield University. Her main research interests include rotorcraft modelling and simulation, gas turbine performance, multidisciplinary design optimization, and novel propulsion architectures including electrification and hydrogen-powered systems. Chana holds a 5-year diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Western Macedonia in Greece. She joined Cranfield University in 2017 to obtain the MSc in Thermal Power with a full scholarship. Chana continued her studies at Cranfield University and completed her PhD in collaboration with the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre for Aero Systems Design, Integration and Performance in 2022. Her doctoral research focused on novel powerplant for emerging VTOL architectures. In her current role, Chana is actively involved in various industrial-funded projects and the Clean Sky 2 project FASTRIP2050.
